NEWS: Rugby Australia locked in two more Wallaby stars with Nick Frost and Matt Faessler committing ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

The core of the Wallabies squad continues to put pen to paper as Frost and Faessler also re-signed two-year deals each.

Frost’s new contract will see him remain in the nation’s capital until the end of 2027, making the athletic second rower the latest in a string of key Wallabies to sign until at least the World Cup in Australia

Frost began his rugby journey as a Hornsby Lions junior, and was educated at Knox Grammar, where he was selected in the 2017 Australian Schoolboys side.

A product of the Australian pathways, in 2019 he was part of the Junior Wallabies squad that came runners-up to France in the Under-20 World Championship in Argentina; a tournament where he was remembered for a viral 60-metre solo try, outpacing a number of Ireland’s outside backs.

The 206cm tall-timber joined the Brumbies program in 2019 where he honed his set-piece and was part of the squad that lifted the 2020 Super Rugby AU title, in what was his first professional season, since going on to play for the club on 67 occasions.

His strong form at club level saw him named in the 2021 Wallabies squad, however he would need to wait until the following year to make his Test debut against England in Perth, going on to make nine appearances for Australia in his debut International season.

He has since become a mainstay of the Wallabies setup, part of the 2023 World Cup group and featured heavily in Joe Schmidt’s matchday squads throughout 2024, amassing 25 Tests so far in the gold jersey.

His re-signing further strengthens the Brumbies and Wallabies moving into this year’s British & Irish Lions Series and the World Cup in Australia in a little over two years.

Faessler, 26, enjoyed his best international season in 2024, playing nine Tests and becoming the first Australian hooker in history to cross for three tries in a match during the Wallabies’ 52-20 victory over Wales in Cardiff.

Faessler had a non-traditional pathway to Super Rugby, playing for both Brothers in Brisbane’s Hospital Cup, before joining Randwick in Sydney’s Shute Shield competition.

From there, he was brought back across the border to Ballymore, where he made his Super Rugby debut in 2022 and quickly earned a reputation for his strong set pieces and his work around the field.

One year later he became Wallaby No. 969 when he made his Test debut against the All Blacks in Dunedin.

Just a week later, he was named in the 2023 Rugby World Cup squad and has been capped 14 times for the Wallabies so far and has represented the Reds on 45 occasions.

His maternal grandfather, Vince Bermingham, is Wallaby No. 288 and was a member of the first Australian side to win the Bledisloe Cup in 1934.

Faessler and Frost’s re-signing follows that of fellow Wallabies Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Harry Wilson and Jeremy Williams in recent weeks.
