Max Verstappen has become just the fourth F1 driver to record a grand prix victory in 10 successive seasons following his Japanese triumph
The four-time F1 champion converted pole position into a straight-forward win, easily seeing off the challenge from Lando Norris.
It was Verstappen’s 64th career win overall, and the 10th straight season in which he has won a grand prix since his first at the 2016 Spanish GP.
This year is also Verstappen’s 11th season in F1, with the Dutchman only failing to win in his rookie 2015 campaign.
The result is that Verstappen has joined F1 titans Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, and Alain Prost in winning a race for at least 10 consecutive years.
Schumacher and Hamilton jointly hold the record with 15 successive years, whilst Prost is on 10.
Verstappen, if he is still racing in 2030 and has won every year between now and then, could take the record outright.
Between them, Hamilton (105), Schumacher (91), Verstappen (64), and Prost (51) have won a staggering 27.57 per cent of every world championship grand prix – 311 of the 1,128 held as of the Japanese GP.
