The Blitzboks’ Singapore Sevens campaign got off to a disappointing start with a six-tries-to-two defeat by Great Britain on Saturday.

Philip Snyman’s men, who are looking to secure a top-four finish in the sixth and final leg of the SVNS Series this week, went down 38-10 in their Pool A opener at the National Stadium.

Sebastiaan Jobb saw red in just the second minute, and it left South Africa vulnerable early on. The Britons exploited the numerical advantage, Sunni Jardine with a brace while Will Homer added the extras with dead-eye accuracy.

Homer, Harry Glover, Luke Mehson and Matt Davidson also crossed the whitewash. Despite brave responses from Zain Davids and Dewald Human, a second-half yellow card to Human sealed the South Africans’ fate.

The Blitzboks must now regroup to face series leaders Argentina in their final pool clash on Saturday (10.44am).
