Double World Cup winners Faf de Klerk and Jesse Kriel started for Yokohama Canon Eagles in their 30-22 home defeat to fellow Bok Malcolm Marx’s Kubota Spears. Former Kings lock David Bulbring started for Spears, while former Stormers and Sharks lock Ruan Botha came off the bench. Rikus Pretorius scored late on to seal the win for Spears.
Kurt-Lee Arendse scored his fifth try of the season for Mitsubishi Dynaboars in their high-scoring 44-40 win over Toyota Verblitz.
Bok bruiser Jasper Wiese skippered Urayusu D-Rocks to their first win of the season in a 31-26 triumph over Franco Mostert’s Honda Heat. Former Kings centre Shane Gates scored for D-Rocks and he was joined in the starting lineup by former Lions lock Lourens Erasmus. Two former Bulls players, Janco Swanepoel and FC du Plessis featured for Heat.
Bok pair Lood de Jager and Damien de Allende were on deck for Saitama Wild Knights in a 28-28 draw with Toshiba Brave Lupus in a top of the table clash.
Cheslin Kolbe played off the bench in Suntory Sungoliath’s 31-29 win at Kobelco Kobe Steelers. Former Bulls loose forward Willie Potgieter was a second-half replacement for Steelers.
Former Lions utility back Sylvain Mahuza came off the bench for Shizuoka Blue Revs in their 32-24 win over Black Rams.
