George Russell believes Mercedes will benefit from the difficult run of form it has endured across the last handful of seasons.
Mercedes slipped back in the pecking order at the start of 2022 when new technical regulations were introduced, having enjoyed a strong run of success in the years prior.
The Brackley-based squad showed promising pace at certain events last year and is hopeful it will have a more competitive package for 2025 in what is poised to be a highly competitive season.
Russell outlined Mercedes can learn from the difficulties posed in previous campaigns and enter the new campaign with a fresh slate.
“It’s been a tough couple of years, we haven’t had anything close to the success we hoped for and what we worked towards,” Russell told Sky F1.
“But I feel that we potentially almost needed those years to reset, to change the mould, to start us on a fresh start for this year.”
While the primary focus is on the upcoming year, one eye is already being cast to the 2026 campaign when a regulation shake-up will occur.
“But also for next year, it’s going to be a huge season for every team,” Russell added. “There’s so much focus going into getting that right.
“We know if we start off on the right track, it can set you up for the years to come. So I’m really pumped, really excited.
“The break was nice but I want to go racing now.”
