Sergio Perez’s father has backed his son to make an unbelievable move to Formula E, following his recent F1 exit.

Perez and Red Bull mutually parted ways at the conclusion of 2024 after an uninspiring campaign for the 34-year-old.

The Mexican driver failed to claim a podium in any of the last 19 rounds of the season, leaving him down in eighth in the F1 drivers’ title.

He was 285 points adrift of Verstappen, who soared to new heights with a fourth crown. For 2025, Red Bull has promoted Liam Lawson to replace Perez.

Last week, Perez revealed that his future will be decided in six months and that it is too soon to decide whether a return to F1 is the correct move.

His father, who was present at last weekend’s FE race in Mexico City, has backed him for a return to motorsport and to the all-electric championship.

“I would never have imagined Formula E and I would be careful because we could have Checo Pérez racing here,” Perez Sr told Estadio Deportes.

“Of course, without any problem, [I see him racing here] the category has been around for 11 years, it is very young, today it is number two in the world and within the next five years it will be number one.

“That is why I am here, I am looking forward to what comes next.”

FE would also be keen on the arrival of Perez, as revealed by co-founder Alberto Longo; however, the move would be reliant on a team’s interest, not the category’s promoter.

“We welcome him with open arms,” said Longo, also to Estadio Deportes

“I also say that it is not the decision of the promoters of the championship, which is us, but rather his decision and then that of the main teams, because in the end they are the ones who decide who sits in each of their cars.”
