Warren Gatland’s sacking is reportedly up for discussion at a Welsh Rugby Union board meeting on Wednesday, as the national team’s woeful form continues.
According to WalesOnline, the Kiwi coach was given a chance to turn things around in the Six Nations after a winless 2024, but Wales’ 22-15 loss to Italy last week has left his position increasingly untenable.
With tough fixtures against Ireland, Scotland and England ahead, it is understood that the WRU may act before the championship ends.

WalesOnline reports that a break clause in Gatland’s contract could be triggered soon, though sacking him immediately could cost the WRU around £2 million (R46m). CEO Abi Tierney previously downplayed the break clause, but pressure is mounting after a record 14 consecutive Test defeats.
The news outlet suggests that one possible scenario is placing Gatland on gardening leave and promoting an assistant or a regional coach on secondment. Another is Gatland stepping down himself, given the rising public and media scrutiny.
