Formula E has experienced a surge in viewership over the opening two rounds of season 11, held in Brazil and Mexico, respectively.
The groundswell of support underpins the growth in popularity for the all-electric series, particularly in the United States.
The second round of the season, the Mexico E-Prix, had a viewership 80% higher than F1’s inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2023 and is the highest the championship has achieved for a single programme in its history.
The race in Mexico City drew 10.5 million cumulative audience* on US network CBS alone.
It is a record-breaking figure for Formula E. It is the largest audience it has ever achieved in the United States and surpasses all by one F1 grand prix from the past two seasons.
“This strong start to the 11th season of our championship, with our new and existing broadcast partnerships delivering record audiences in our key markets is a testament to our accelerated fan growth and the exciting racing spectacle put on by our elite drivers in their new cutting edge GEN3 Evo cars,” said Aarti Dabas, chief media officer for Formula E.
“With 14 more races to come, we are firmly on track to deliver our biggest season ever and take our racing spectacle to more fans than ever before.”
In the United Kingdom, ITV’s free-to-air broadcast deal saw viewership for the season-opening round in Sao Paulo grown by 120% compared to the same race in season 10.
*(Cumulative audience calculates the total number of unique viewers who tuned in for at least one minute. F1 audiences are calculated in the same way.)
