Rookie Gino Cupido scored on debut as the Blitzboks opened the 2025 Hong Kong Sevens with a comprehensive win against Uruguay on Friday.
The teenager was swarmed by his teammates after running 95 metres at the Kai Tak Stadium to score in his first appearance as the Springboks Sevens raced to a 40-7 victory.

South Africa’s five remaining tries came via a Quewin Nortje double and one each from Siviwe Soyizwapi, Shilton van Wyk and Ricardo Duarttee. Leading Los Teros 19-0 at the half, the South Africans streaked to victory over their Pool B rivals.
The Blitzboks will now reset for the match against Australia at 2.39pm.
