A senior member of the Blitzboks squad is reportedly ruled out for the Vancouver Sevens tournament in February due to injury.
According to Netwerk24, Blitzboks co-captain Zain Davids will miss the fourth leg of the 2024-25 SVNS Series season after injuring his knee in Perth last week.
South Africa will tackle southern hemisphere rivals New Zealand and Australia, along with Ireland, in Pool B at Canada’s BC Place from 21 to 23 February.

Head coach Philip Snyman will have his fingers crossed that Davids, who played his 50th sevens tournament Down Under, recovers in time for the Hong Kong and Singapore legs in late March and early April.
It is understood that Davids’ absence could open the door for Gideon van Wyk, who’s yet to make his Blitzboks debut but impressed for the SA Sevens A-side in Dubai. The 23-year-old has also played for the Cheetahs and in Major League Rugby.
Meanwhile, forwards Tiaan Pretorius and Masande Mtshali might return from injury, while Christie Grobbelaar remains sidelined.
South Africa currently sits fourth in the overall SVNS standings with 44 points, trailing leaders Fiji, Argentina and Spain (all on 48).
