Kimi Antonelli has detailed the “great relationship” he has with Toto Wolff, especially in “difficult moments.”
Italian Antonelli is stepping up to F1 to make his debut in place of Lewis Hamilton at just 18-years-old following a successful junior career.
On his FP1 debut for Mercedes at Monza in 2024, Antonelli crashed heavily at the Parabolica, leaving the car looking like a “box of Lego”, according to Wolff.
However, Antonelli has completed thousands of laps in Mercedes equipment as part of Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) running ahead of his debut, alongside George Russell.
Speaking of his relationship with Wolff, Antonelli, who is also coaching Wolff’s son Jack in go-karting, detailed the closeness.
“We have a great relationship, not only professionally, but also outside of the track,” Antonelli told The Athletic.
“He’s a great guy, really supportive during great moments but also during difficult moments. I’m super happy to be with him. He’s been giving me a lot of help.”
As for Wolff Junior’s karting skills, Antonelli was impressed.
“He’s not bad, he’s been improving quite a lot,” he added.
“Every test, he was getting better and better, it was nice to see.”
