Lando Norris has moved to the top of the F1 drivers’ championship following victory in a wet and wild Australian Grand Prix.
In a wet/dry/wet classic, Norris fended off Max Verstappen in the final laps to win the opener by less than a second, with George Russell completing the podium.
It means Norris leads the championship for the first-time ever in his career. However, McLaren is joined at the top of the constructors’ standings by Mercedes.
The Woking team was initially alone at the summit, but Mercedes’ successful appeal of the results to get Kimi Antonelli’s fourth place restored put them equal with McLaren.
That moved Alex Albon back down to fifth position, but Williams will still be happy with a healthy haul of 10 points.
Oscar Piastri salvaged two points after muscling past Lewis Hamilton for ninth on the final lap following a near-disaster for the home favourite.
