A key player at the vanguard for the Stormers and influential presence in the pack has reportedly put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Cape outfit.

According to Rapport, skipper Salmaan Moerat has signed a new long-term deal with the Stormers, keeping the 10-Test Springbok in Cape Town until after the 2027 World Cup.

The 26-year-old lock, who captained the Boks three times last year, is believed to have turned down a lucrative offer from English club Sale Sharks to extend his stay with the franchise he has represented since 2018.

Meanwhile, negotiations continue between the Stormers and Bok hooker Joseph Dweba, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Rapport reports that two English Premiership clubs are showing interest in the 29-year-old, with one particularly eager to sign him.

Sources also revealed to Rapport that Bok and Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok faces an extended spell on the sidelines. A scan confirmed ligament damage in his knee, with rehabilitation set to last eight weeks.

Should Libbok require surgery, the 2023 World Cup winner could be ruled out for up to six months, potentially missing the July Tests against Italy and Georgia.
