American car manufacturer Ford is to re-enter the highest class of endurance racing from 2027 onwards, it has confirmed.
The household name will participate in LMDh (Hypercars) of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), including the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a one-car team – to begin with.
In doing so, it enters an already strong field, packed with legendary automotive and motorsport names, such as: Aston Martin, Porsche, Toyota, Cadillac, BMW, Peugeot, Alpine and Ferrari.
To announce the news, Ford put out a short and direct social media post to mark the start of its Hypercar programme, tagging WEC and Le Mans.

Storied rivalry
Ford, which is rejoining F1 in 2026 as part of a technical partnership with Red Bull, where it will supply specific power unit support and components, also has a storied history in sports cars.
In particular, this development will revive it’s Le Mans rivalry with Ferrari from the 1960s, which is considered one of the most iconic in the history of motorsport.
It comes amid speculation that McLaren is also considering launching its own endurance racing team.
