The FIA has introduced controversial new stewards penalty guidelines for the 2025 motorsport season, a move that has set social media abuzz.
Centred on driver ‘misconduct’, the new measures – listed under Appendix B of the governing body’s international sporting code (ISC) – seek to drastically curb offences like swearing and speaking out against the FIA.
If found guilty multiple times, drivers could be punished with bans and championship points deductions.
There is also a multiplier in effect for fines to drivers at different levels of competition, meaning F1 drivers will pay four times the financial penalties listed below.

The changes remain guidelines, so it is not yet clear know rigorously they will be upheld. But they nonetheless hand considerable disciplinary power to those overseeing race weekends.
